About the event

Brief Description

Come join POA friends on Sunday, Feb. 18 for a fun snow shoe outing to Boom Lake

near Storm Mountain Lodge on Highway 93 South. We will meet at 9:45 AM at Opera House. We will leave at 10 AM sharp so please be on time.

The drive to the trailhead is along highway to Lake Louise, then south along Highway 93. We typically travel in informally arranged car pools, so if you were planning to attend, please feel free to arrange your ride with fellow POA members also attending the event.

The round trip walking time will likely be just over 3 hours. Leaving at 10 AM we should be back at the Opera House around 4 PM.

We typically stop at the lake weather permitting for snacks, lunch, warm drinks so please bring your choice of lunch items with you. No alcohol is permitted on the outing.

Essentials to Bring

Please bring/wear the following items.

  • Warm hiking or winter boots suitable for walking in your snow shoes
  •  Snow shoes (if you need to rent snow shoes Gear Up in Canmore is a good option. Hey, you can pick up your snowshoes the evening before the event and return them after the outing at no additional charge. https://www.gearupsport.com/skates-and-snowshoes-rental-canmore)
  • Hiking poles help if you have them
  •  Dress in layers. This is important to a more enjoyable experience. You may find you warm up as you walk and cool off as you stop.
  • Consider a second set of mittens or gloves (your first pair may get wet and cold, especially when we stop at the lake)
  • Food, sandwiches, trail mix, snacks, warm drink, water as you prefer
  • Small back pack/day pack to carry your items
  • Bear spray if you have it

Please note

  • This area does require a valid National Parks pass for all vehicles.
  • Every participant will be required to sign a waiver.
