On this trip, we cycle into Canmore's coal history, visiting old coal mines, awesome fossil trees, and stinky sulphur ponds, all on Canmore's wonderful pathway system.

About the event

Leaving from the Malcolm Hotel, we cross Bridge Road into Mineside then cycle south on the Bow River Pathway stopping several times to observe geological and mining points of interest. On the return, we will trace part of the old coal trains route, pass the site of the original Opera House, and finish by crossing the iconic Engine Bridge on the way to JK Bakery.


This is an easy-moderate 15 km roundtrip cycle, with 66 metres of elevation gain. Expected trip length is 3 hours.


All attendees are required to sign the SCPOA waiver form to participate in this activity. Please bring the completed waiver form with you to the event.
